Why SaddleGauge
Both of these horses are classified as the same saddle size.
Both are a “medium”. Look at them — their backs are nothing alike. A size label describes a category, not a shape, which is exactly why buying to the label keeps failing. Your horse's real measurements are the only thing that fits it.
Say goodbye to the days of frustrating saddle-fitting processes. Now, the entire procedure is effortless and straightforward, with no need to learn any extra skills.
No more guesswork or repeated adjustments, our product is designed to eliminate the common frustrations associated with finding the right saddle fit.
Say goodbye to extra trips to the saddle shop. SaddleGauge is your one-stop solution for a perfect fit, saving you time and money. Invest in the best for your horse!
Watch it work
Most riders assume a tool like this needs a saddle fitter standing next to them to be worth anything. It doesn't. One person, one horse, no appointment — that is the whole video, start to finish, with nothing edited out of the middle.
Watch it first. If it doesn't look like something you'd actually do on your own horse, on a normal day, don't buy the gauge — you're free to close the tab and we'd genuinely rather that than a tool sitting unused in your tack room.
Where it sits
Behind the shoulder blade, flat on the back — the one placement everything else depends on.
How it locks
Press the spine and paddle wings flush, hand-tighten the thumb joints, lift it off with the shape still held.
What you write down
The numbers off the spine and wings. That short row of digits is your horse, and it travels in your pocket.
Prefer to read it? The written walkthrough covers the same steps, and the printable log sheet is free whether or not you ever buy anything.
In use
Hold the reading against the saddle in your tack room and see the gaps for yourself.
It keeps its setting off the horse, so your horse comes to the saddle shop with you.
Give a custom tree maker measurements instead of a description.
How you use it
It takes about ten minutes and a helper to hold the horse. No skills to learn, nothing to calibrate.
Stand your horse square on level ground, head forward. Lay the gauge along the topline with the logo end towards the head.
Work front to back, pressing each paddle pair flat against the body. Lift the gauge off to adjust, then set it back down — never drag it into shape on the horse.
Every joint and paddle carries a numbered scale. Read the number the pointer lands on and record it — on the sheet in the box, or on your phone.
The gauge holds its setting, so the shape comes off the horse and into the saddle shop. Lay it inside a saddle and you can see the gaps for yourself.
What it records
A gauge doesn't replace a saddle fitter.
It gives you real measurements instead of a guess, and it lets you rule saddles out yourself. For anything borderline — and for the final say on the horse — a qualified fitter with hands on the animal is still the one to confirm it.
Before you buy
It solves one problem extremely well and several adjacent problems not at all. Here is the honest split, so you can put yourself on the right side of it before you spend anything.
If you landed in the right-hand column, close the tab with our blessing — and take the printable log sheet with you anyway, it costs nothing and it is useful on its own.
